THE SUN: The Incontestable Healer

A lot of us might doubt religion, but certainly, we definitely can't doubt ‘Ra; The sun god’. Ra was a highly revered god by the Ancient Egyptians and the people wouldn’t stop paying their respects to him because they believed he possessed healing power.
For many centuries, even likely till date, it was of the understanding that the power of the sun that Ra had, got exposed to the Ancient Egyptians, curing them of almost any form of illness. Hence, the Egyptians had a history of constantly exposing themselves to sunlight by relaxing frequently on their rooftops and corridors, and yes, making sure their buildings had architectural designs that let in enough sunlight.
And really, it was as though Ra really took a keen interest in these people. They appeared healthier… they definitely were healthier and there were reports of praises brought towards Ra for the magic he performed to cure the people…the magic provided by the sun.
But this blog article isn’t exactly about Ra, this is about the magical property he possesses… the sun, one that every single person on the face of this earth has access to. We schedule surgery appointments with doctors, sort out for spiritual leaders, take out loans all so we could get cured. But really, there are many of us who haven’t tapped into the strong magical properties of the sun yet.
We spoke to the Founder of a community that looks into the wellbeing of parents with chronic illnesses and she shared some really valuable insights!
Doreen Nuñez, Founder of https://mommyrheum.com/ who is also a victim of a chronic illness, explains how the power of ‘Ra’, the sun, has healed her in more ways than she hoped for.
“Having lived with rheumatoid arthritis for 14 years plus, I've experienced incredible benefits of sunlight exposure when I'm not on medication that prohibits it. Living on the East Coast, I've noticed my arthritis gets way worse in the colder months, especially if I don't make an effort to go outside. But once spring and summer roll around, I feel so much better; my joints hurt less, my energy picks up, and my mood just feels lighter. The reason being, sunlight helps our bodies produce vitamin D, which is a key immune function, and reduces inflammation. When we don't get enough, our bodies can feel it, especially those of us with chronic illnesses like rheumatoid arthritis (NIH). “
So anyway, you’re really not crazy for feeling like being cooked up in your room for several days with the curtains closed has somehow made your bones weak and you constantly reaching out for the soup bowl.
Doreen Nuñez referred to something like this as seasonal depression [SAD] and it mostly took hold of several people in the winter, when there’s absolutely little brightness and every single space and location seems like the curtains have been drawn, even when really, you’re in an open space.
Niels Ryberg Finsen, a Danish researcher, was probably blessed by the sun god; Ra, to reveal deeper knowledge on the benefits of the sun. His research on the sun took a revolutionary hold in the 20th century, one that involved several hospitals and healthcare centres, to install sanatoriums, basically sun decks, in the 20th century hospitals.
Really, why waste so much treatments on patients when they can be left to relax on a deck with so much sun for several hours, and it really did do the trick because many of these patients' illnesses seemed to just vanish after constantly basking in the sunlight for a couple of months.
If Sun Therapy is all it takes to lift our moods, strengthen our immune systems…’magically’ cure illnesses, then really shouldn’t we all be participating in more afternoon walks?
If Doreen Nuñez can feel better when she gets enough sun, then certainly, you can too. All you just need to do is to follow the lead of the Ancient Egyptians!
